The Siths started their attacks on the planet shortly after. Everything happened so fast from that point. Ivar has naturally no memories of that episode of his life. He can only imagine the horror through the stories told by his parents. Selka was pregnant with Sherus when they had to evacuate in emergency. Doctors later told Selka the conditions of Sherus comes from this violent event. The evacuation was very rough, many people died during the bombing. Good people forever lost. Both Akorio and Selka were members of large families, many members of their families died that day, along with their children. Some however, could escape and boarded on different cargo ships, but the Stonebenders had no idea. They were to be scattered across the galaxy for years, only to be eventually found by Ivar during the odyssey we will cover later in this holocron.
The cargo ship called "The Endeavour" barely made it through the Sith fleet. The Republic fighters managed to destroy the Siths ships threatening the large whale shaped ship, at the expense of many brave pilots lives. The Endeavour escape just in time for the first jump to light speed. However the trip to the Dantooine planet took a while, many galactic years actually, as it had to hop from a Republic "safe" sector to another on the way there. Dog fights with imperial forces and asteroids fields have became their routine at some point.
As you can imagine, the ship was way too crowded for it’s initial capacity. There were only cabins for about 30 staff members and about 100 cabins with double beds for travellers. There were over 1200 citizens on board. Most of them had to live in the cargo bay with minimum creature comfort. Luckily The Endeavour was used to ship various supplies, including food and water. The cargo bay was full so there was enough supplies to feed everyone during the trip.
Since Akorio worked for the Republic army, his family had the chance to get their own crew cabin. Young Sherus could spend the 2 first years of the trip in a relatively decent comfort with his parents. When Ivar turned 4, the ship was still 3 galactic years away from his destination, as they eventually discovered. The Endeavour became quite similar to a small floating city and the community was well organised. Republic soldiers maintained security and a fair dispatch of the supplies to the refugees. As usual, people gathered in community of the same or similar species. Sadly the Stonebenders were the only family of their kind aboard. The Republic army had to save their troops in priority, once the whole military people have boarded, only very little room was left for the native citizens.
One can not say Ivar suffered from any sort of discrimination during that time. Because the community had to be united and well disciplined to survive, everyone avoided pointless arguments. Although Ivar never felt totally accepted by other kids. He started to go to elementary school by that time and started to learn common galactic language with the other kids. He only heard his native language so far from his parents, but he adapted very quickly. Language is one of the skills he was naturally gifted with. Of course kids can be cruel at time and he went trough some bullying, nothing really traumatic, as any "exotic" kid would experience. The fact that he was significantly smaller than the other kids was a real burden though.
